OUR HERITAGE

The Farmstead
1876
Earliest maps show a barn at Home Farm - now a converted farmhouse - dating back to the 19th century.
1953
Home Farm was purchased by Harold and Nora Spence. The farmhouse remained in the village, with only animals living at Home Farm (around 10 dairy shorthorn cows).
1984
Purchase of first large 4wd tractor at Home Farm & photo of it in action.
1987
Construction of farmhouse on the farmstead at Home Farm.
1964 - 1990
Construction of farm buildings continued. The first conventional milking parlour was installed in 1982 and was used right up until the present day. Prior to this, milking was done on a milk line system.

Present day
Construction of new cattle shed, milking parlour and cheese room completed.
The Family
1953
Harold Spence marries Nora Tiplady shortly before the purchase of Home Farm. Both come from Dales farming families.
1954
David Spence was born.
1986
David Spence marries Susan Spence.
1987/89
Ben and Adam Spence born - soon to become the third generation to farm at Home Farm.
2015
Ben Spence marries Samantha Atherton.
2018
Fourth generation starting to learn the ropes...
